About the speaker: XING Wen is Presidential Chair Professor of traditional Chinese art and culture at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Robert 1932 and Barbara Black Professor in Asian Studies, Emeritus, Dartmouth College. He received China’s most prestigious national award in Fine Arts, the 2^nd quinquennial China Fine Arts Award 中国美术奖in 2014 and authored six books on Chinese calligraphy and painting, such as Hiding the Tip: Gateway to Chinese Calligraphy (2014) and 楚简书法探论(2015) .

Abstract: An introduction to the art and culture of Chinese calligraphy from the perspective of its major scripts.
