- Living in Korea
University life in Korea is quite relaxed, without so much stress, with more things to enjoy near the university. Even though KU isn’t really in a central area with all the shopping malls, but metro and bus is available anywhere.
Things recommended to buy here will be transformer plugs(?) and t-money. T-money card is something like a transportation card, which will be essential before getting a bank card, student card, and ERC here.
From my experience here, these were the most necessary applications for living in Korea: Naver map, Kakao talk, and Instagram. The most frequently used website for searching anything is ‘Naver’, which I used to search for everything such as Covid test, restaurants, or even the weather.
There are also quite a lot of places to go during weekends. There are quite a lot of places for shopping and café hopping within Seoul. Students who came here to exchange also went traveling to Pohang, Busan, Gangneung, Gyeongju and some other places.
- Experience in KU
There was KoYon competition during this semester, and not only KU, but also a lot of universities had their Uni festivals, and it was usually open for all the people, not restricted to only the students from their own university. The atmosphere were very good, I would recommend these festivals if you wanna go and experience ‘korean’ style university festival with food and celebrities.
There are quite a lot of concerts and exhibitions, I would strongly recommend searching in ‘Naver’ website.
I am not so sure about other majors, but for business-related courses, KU had more English course choices compared to other universities. The course workload and difficulty weren’t so bad, without very much pressure, and my experience with the professors and TA’s in KU were really friendly and willing to help. For the course choices, I would recommend looking up course rating websites and looking up in ‘Naver’.
KU has a buddy program for all the exchange students. They allocate each student to a buddy group, which is managed by Korean buddies. They will tell you about KU, take you to lunch and dinner, and hang out together. And for our group, we also had MT. It was much easier for them to adapt to KU.
